Motion can be described using three quantities: distance, time, and speed. Speed is defined as the distance covered per unit of time. The formula is: speed equals distance divided by time. The standard unit of speed is metres per second. In everyday life we also use kilometres per hour. A person walks at about five kilometres per hour, a car typically travels at sixty to one hundred and twenty kilometres per hour, and light travels at three hundred million metres per second.
