The circulatory system transports oxygen, nutrients, hormones, and waste products around the body. It consists of the heart — a four-chambered muscular pump — blood vessels, and blood. The heart beats sixty to one hundred times per minute, pumping about five litres of blood continuously. The body's blood vessels, if laid end to end, would stretch approximately one hundred thousand kilometres — more than twice around the Earth.
