Every organism on Earth has features that help it survive its particular climate. These features, developed over millions of years of evolution, are called adaptations. A polar bear's thick fur and fat layer help it survive temperatures below minus forty degrees. A camel's hump stores fat — not water — which can be converted to energy during long desert journeys. A cactus stores water in its thick stem. Each adaptation is a precise solution to a specific climate challenge.
