Heat and temperature are related but not the same thing. Temperature is a measure of how hot or cold an object is — it describes the average kinetic energy of the particles in a substance. Heat, on the other hand, is the total thermal energy transferred from one object to another. A large bathtub filled with warm water at forty degrees contains far more heat than a small cup of very hot tea, even though the tea has a higher temperature.
